Participatory housing: The power of the collective

Becoming a homeowner is a great adventure, but one that can be challenging to achieve for a family and, even more so, for a single person. But what if your housing project was in the hands of a group of people instead of just you? “There’s strength in numbers” is a popular saying. Why can’t it be applied to the property sector? That’s what the groupement d’habitat participatif (GHP, or participatory housing), also known as community-led housing project, is all about. The GHP offers participants the opportunity to pool their resources in order to acquire a plot of land, design and construct a building and manage it (all the while preserving the autonomy of each individual).
