Ode to Helmut Berger

Austrian actor Helmut Berger often portrayed mysterious, sexually ambiguous and subversive characters, in part reflecting his personal escapades. More often than not, his looks and behaviours masked a deeper, more complex inner reality.
Widely known for his professional collaboration and personal relationship with Luchino Visconti, he also worked with many great directors such as Vittorio De Sica, Francis Ford Coppola, Joseph Losey, Bertrand Bonello and Albert Serra.
Seducer (The Romantic Englishwoman and Ash Wednesday), tormented king (Ludwig), and most famously known as a cross-dressed Marlene Dietrich in The Damned, come explore the many faces of Helmut Berger at the Cinémathèque in September.
