The Philharmonie promises an incredibly varied programme for its 18th season, including celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hungarian composer György Ligeti, with no fewer than four events paying tribute to this genius of contemporary music. Three artists have also been invited to take up residencies. These include French pianist Hélène Grimaud, who will be performing Mozart and Brahms, as well as two recitals; the Quatuor Ébène, one of the most in-demand chamber orchestras in the world, which will be performing three concerts, exploring the classical repertoire, from Haydn to Bartók via Schubert, and a much-anticipated concert featuring John Adams Absolute Jest; and American conductor and harpsichordist William Christie, along with his Le Jardin des Voix ensemble, who will be performing three concerts. Also on the programme for this season are many shows and workshops for children, the ever-delightful film screenings with live musical accompaniment and architectural tours of the magnificent Philharmonie building.
