The paintings of Luxembourg artist Michel Majerus (1967-2002) predominantly address the globalisation of consumerism as well as all with the expanding role of digital technology. These concerns are exemplified by Sinnmaschine (i.e. meaning machine) designed in 1997 and presented in the Grand Hall. The painting installation consists of an industrial metal floor, reminiscent of a dance floor on which the steps of visitors resonate. It is accompanied by several more of the artist’s works, which, when combined, showcase his techniques thanks to his notebooks, his book and magazine collection, as well as his recordings on VHS cassettes. These exhibits reveal his many interests and inspirations, and the origin behind some of his most iconic works.
