Although Shakespeare is world famous for his literary opus, we sometimes forget that he inspired a number of artists who set his plays to music. With his trademark good humour, Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón narrates these plays accompanied by Canadian soprano Emily D’Angelo while Spanish conductor Roberto González-Monjas leads the Orchestre national du Luxembourg performing Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and extracts from Verdi’s Macbeth and Rossini’s Otello. This highly original line-up highlights the importance of Shakespeare in classical music.
