In May, we’ll take a deep dive into the work of New Zealand director Jane Campion. With some impressive titles under her belt, Campion won the Palme d’Or for her first short film An Exercise in Discipline: Peel, gaining further recognition for well-known features Sweetie, The Piano, and biopic An Angel at My Table, based on writer Janet Frame.

All of these will be available to see, as well as a short film programme – with, among others, A Girl’s Own Story and Passionless Moments – and the slightly more intriguing The Portrait of a Lady.

In many of her films Campion works heavily with drama and the slightly deeper, darker, and difficult emotions humans experience every day. While there is no happy ending guaranteed, the journeys of her heroines are worth following.
