The Verdi cycle continues at the Grand Théâtre with a production of Rigoletto. Having caused something of a sensation in 2016 with his staging of Il Trovatore, Frenchman Richard Brunel will once again be demonstrating his complete mastery of the Italian composer’s work in this creation combining the classicism of opera with the modernity of ballet, since the story is set within a dance company – the perfect backdrop to this cinematic creation in which violence and beauty clash. A fascinating piece of metatheatre brought to us by the Lorraine National Orchestra and a first-class cast, with conductor Alexander Joel bringing Giuseppe Verdi’s work to life in a wonderfully colourful production.
