Paul Helminger, former mayor of the City of Luxembourg, passed away on Friday 16 April 2021. During his 12-year tenure as City mayor, Helminger displayed a strong and tireless dedication to the capital and its residents, doing everything in his power to ensure that the City was prepared for the challenges it would face in the future, and making it a strong, modern and booming European capital.
“Not only have we lost a politician who had a profound impact on the capital’s fortune, but also a warm-hearted friend,” said current City mayor, Lydie Polfer.
Helminger was an important figure in the capital’s political life: he was first elected to the Luxembourg municipal council in 1988, before becoming an alderman from 1991 to 1999, and then holding the position of mayor from 1999 to 2011.
