Joining in the fight against climate change, the City of Luxembourg has just added 10 new allelectric buses to its fleet, with the option of buying an additional 15.
The leader of this European-wide call for tender was, in January 2020, the Swedish company Volvo, which provided these buses last November.
The new vehicles, of which more than half were financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will operate on lines 9 and 14, making them the first two fully electric lines of the AVL network. Together with the subcontractor’s buses, the new comfortable vehicles will significantly cut CO2 emissions. In total, the electric buses will save roughly 440,000 litres of fuel, representing 1,161 tonnes fewer CO2 emissions over a total distance of 1.1 million kilometres that lines 9 and 14 travel each year.
