Selected as part of the end-of-creation residence Capucins Libre in 2019, Mentez-moi is a very loose interpretation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. The play examines the passage of time and the confrontation between adults and children, the adults lying to themselves in their attempts to drive the world forward whilst at the same time punishing the children for doing the same. This funny and touching piece by Pauline Collet is also a beautiful physical performance for the actors of Compagnie 22, who get to play around with imagery and lights. The truth of the world may well be laid bare on the stage of the Théâtre des Capucins, when everything else is, after all, just one big masquerade.
