100 ans de suffrage universel

The Chamber of Deputies and the MNHA have joined forces to mark the centenary of the introduction of universal suffrage with this exhibition. Tracing the history from the initial political struggles to ensure that all Luxembourgers were granted the right to vote in 1919 right through to the current electoral system, which has attracted a great deal of criticism, this tour takes visitors on a journey through the recent history of our democracy and of universal suffrage in particular. The exhibition gives a detailed account of the key periods in this century, including the reasons behind the introduction of universal suffrage, the criticism of parliamentarianism in the interwar period, the abolition of democracy under the Nazi occupation and the various ways in which suffrage and political participation were extended after World War II.
