As you can guess by the cover of this month’s City magazine, we will be showcasing the Luxembourg City Film Festival, which has become an annual highlight for local movie lovers and will be taking place from 5 to 15 March. This year is the 10th anniversary of the festival, which has become a real point of reference in the international film industry and is well known across Europe and around the world. This is all thanks to the passion and hard work of the people operating tirelessly behind the scenes, and we at the City of Luxembourg are committed to providing considerable financial and logistical support in order to ensure the festival continues to be a great success. This year, the City’s contribution will total €400,000.
We know that many movie buffs among you have been waiting for this big event, and we are sure you won’t be disappointed! This year, we will once again be presenting some wonderful and eclectic gems of modern cinema, as well as the photo exhibition LuxFilmFest Moments, which celebrates the festival’s successful first decade and is already on show at Place Guillaume II. In keeping with tradition, there will also be a themed exhibition at the Ratskeller of the Cercle Cité. In the spotlight will be Véronique Kolber, whose work exposes the influence of American cinema – in particular the Coen brothers and David Lynch – on the collective subconscious.
We are delighted that this event has also become so popular with younger audiences: some 6,000 students have signed up for school screenings and special workshops, which will introduce them to the magic of cinema and, hopefully, broaden their artistic horizons.
