For the first time at the Grand Théâtre, Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus and his company Ultima Vez take the audience on a journey to a parallel universe where time and space are undefined in their latest production, TrapTown. The conflicts of the early days and a series of bizarre natural disasters determine the relationships between the peoples concerned as the topsy-turvy world changes people’s attitudes. Wim Vandekeybus’ fascination with ancient myths has already been highlighted in his earlier productions, including Blush (2002) and Oedipus/bêt noir (2011). Dance and film sequences combine in TrapTown to create a fluent live experience based on a text by Pieter De Buysser. This fable of mythical proportions certainly has a dreamlike dimension to it.
