The title says it all, really: in the run-up before Christmas, it’s time to revisit the universally loved classics that have found their place firmly in cinematic history.
Charlie Chaplin’s silent comedy The Gold Rush portraying the very real – and often horrific – search for riches gets us started, followed by Tim Burton’s gothic fairy tale Edward Scissorhands. Doctor Zhivago, a love story throughout the Russian revolution, Lubitsch’s classic romantic comedy about an unexpected romantic correspondence, The Shop Around The Corner, and Richard Curtis’s Christmas heartfelt, feel-good film about love and fate, Love Actually. Finally, Scrooge brings up the rear, another classic morality play that brings what really matters back into focus.
