The Gala des Étoiles, an unmissable event in the Grand Duchy’s classical dance calendar, is already in its seventh year, and as is the case every year, the focus this edition will be on some of the major classics, featuring a whole host of first-class guests in this “Russian Seasons Mystery”. The world’s most prestigious companies and their soloists will be astounding audiences with their virtuosity, with prima ballerina Ketevan Papava paying tribute to Belle Époque idol and Maurice Ravel’s muse Ida Rubinstein, whilst Maria Eichwald, of the Stuttgart Ballet, Daniil Simkin, of the New York Ballet, and even Liudmila Konovalova, of the Vienna Ballet, will be among the headliners at this year’s event.
The programme will include the famous Russian Ballets staged at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 1909 by creative talent and impresario Sergei Diaghilev – a revolution that took place 110 years ago now and one that set a new gold standard and new boundaries for choreographers such as Marius Petipa, Pierre Lacotte and Yuri Grigorovitch. Their impressive pas de deux and solos will be performed this evening to a musical accompaniment provided by Vienna State Opera pianist Igor Zapravdin, with young violinist and 2016 ECHO Klassik award-winner Yury Revich also starring in what promises to be an unforgettable edition of the event. The perfect opportunity, then, for enthusiasts to appreciate one of the most beautiful sets there are in a single evening and for the uninitiated to discover the sheer grace and nimbleness of Russian ballets. A uniquely moving experience with plenty of fantasy and romanticism for a beautiful summer’s evening.
