After the stadium, housing

The City of Luxembourg launched a competition for urban planning ideas for the stadium district on 17 May. The site currently occupied by the Josy Barthel stadium offers great opportunities close to the city centre and is set to experience new urban development in the years to come. In order to find the best possible solutions, the City has chosen to launch a competition for masterplan ideas that will take place in several phases. Some buildings are of architectural interest and will be retained, such as the former stables in the recycling centre, but one of the priorities in this neighbourhood will be the creation of new housing.
The “Wunnquartier Stade” (or Stadium residential area) will also have to provide local shops – that will complement the future shops of the place de l’Étoile –, relaxation and leisure venues, as well as green spaces. The planning ideas competition has been launched internationally. It will take place in two phases and will include several moments of exchange with citizens.
