Over the years the Hip Hop Marathon, whose first public performance takes place at the Rotondes, has become a not-to-be-missed rendezvous for young people, their caregivers and instructors (parents, teachers, artists…) and for an audience open to urban culture. This 7th edition, which was born out of a partnership between the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, the Mierscher Kulturhaus and the Kulturfabrik cultural centre and nine participating secondary schools, was produced by the Rotondes and reaffirms the important educational and cultural work provided by arts professionals.

After a call for entries to secondary school classes at the start of the school year, the project, which was created over several months, focused on the theme of “The future is yours”, in which young ‘apprentice artists’ were encouraged to think about the world of tomorrow.

Appropriating the language of today, the pupils communicate their visions of the world, reflecting as much their indignation as their hopes, while affirming their commitment to the city of tomorrow. The experiment has proven to be a successful artistic achievement and is underpinned by a relevant educational programme that has a freedom and radiant freshness in approach to it. Rap, dance, graffiti and, for the first time beatbox, are all featured in this new show.
