Éimaischen

Every Easter Monday the traditional Éimaischen takes place. Etymologically, the Éimaischen recalls the march of Jesus’ disciples towards Emmaüs, near Jerusalem. Since the 19th century it manifests as a pottery market in Luxembourg City as a result of Easter Monday corresponding to the potters’ guild festival.

The Éimaischen is above all known for its Péckvillercher, clay whistles in the shape of birds that reproduce cuckoo cries. The market also offers pottery demonstrations, stands selling sweet foods and entertainment for the whole family.
