Anne-Sophie Mutter, the undisputed queen of the violin, looks upon her career as a social endeavour. As a born humanist, the former protégée of Herbert von Karajan has her feet firmly anchored in the present and is working for the future.
As part of their latest European tour, Anne-Sophie Mutter and her faithful companion, the pianist Lambert Orkis, will be performing during the gala evening for SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde. She will be doing so free of charge, an example of the philanthropy that drives her to perform for her fans while serving a good cause. French music will feature extensively in what promises to be an eclectic and sparkling musical programme, with pieces by Poulenc, Ravel and Saint-Saëns. Watch out also for some atonal notes by Sebastian Currier, an American composer, and at the other end of the scale, for some divine tones by Mozart. Proceeds from the concert will be given to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde for emergency support in Syria.
